40 years ago this month Grunder became perhaps the only announcer ever to call a 3-horse field
with show betting. And the minimum payoff was $2.20 too.
State laws have since been changed on both counts. (twas then illegal to eliminate show wagering)
Grunder's style is still
so much the same but the horse names of yore are filled with nostalgia.
