THE PANDEMIC. Millions of people lost their jobs, had their hours severely cut, contracted Covid-19 or were affected by it financially in some way. Desperate people will turn to crime and murder is a by product.
Then there was the isolation and the fact that so many people were in close contact for such a long period of time. Domestic disputes were certainly a major contributor.
Finally there were the protests following the murder of George Floyd. Not because of BLM, but because of criminals and provaucatuers taking advantage of the chaos.
It should be noted that while the murder rate continued to rise in 2021, it did so one third as fast.
