Isn't that odd?

So I tried it myself using the CDC VAERS database

https://wonder.cdc.gov/vaers.html

It seems the J&J vaccine wins this battle.

The problem I had was, the source I was using for total number of vaccines given in the USA for each of the three shots, didn't specify whether the numbers for Pfizer and Moderna included one or both doses (these two vaccines require two doses, J&J only requires one).

If both doses counted as one "shot" in the data I was looking at, J&J won by a country mile.

If you divide the numbers in half for Pfizer & Moderna, J&J still won, but it was much closer.

Has anyone else looked into this? Or know of a source who has? I would love to see reliable numbers.
Looks like, as of today, there has been 270 million doses administered — 9.6M have been J&J, 116M Moderna and 145M Pzizer. So J&J has been 3.5% of the total (9.6/270).

The CDC VAERS database only takes into account who has died/hospitalized/etc. after receiving a dose of a vaccine.

I ran it for “hospitalizations after receiving a vaccine.” The time interval after the vaccine doesn’t matter. It could be 1 day or 120 days. Doesn’t matter whether you received the first or second dose of Moderna or Pizer.

COVID19 (COVID19 (JANSSEN)) 1,470 - 12%
COVID19 (COVID19 (MODERNA)) 5,093 - 43%
COVID19 (COVID19 (PFIZER-BIONTECH)) 5,480 - 45%

Total 12,043 people hospitalized after receiving one of these a vaccines.
So if you take into account that a lot more Moderna/Pfizer vaccines have been given than J&J.

Calculating the odds of being hospitalized:
COVID19 (COVID19 (JANSSEN)) 9.6M / 1,470 = 6,531 to 1
COVID19 (COVID19 (MODERNA)) 116M/ 5,093 = 22,776 to 1
COVID19 (COVID19 (PFIZER-BIONTECH)) 145M / 5,480 = 26,460 to 1

So you are 22,776 / 6,531 or around 3.5 times more likely to get hospitalized after a JANSSEN shot vs. a MODERNA. However since you need two MODERNA shots that number is cut in half.

As for the Pziser, 26,460 / 6,531 or around 4.0 times more likely to get hospitalized after a JANSSEN shot vs. a Pziser. Again you would need to cut it in half since you need two Pzisers.
