I wouldn't sell. What is an old man like that going to do with $500,000? He'd probably try to find another filly like her.
Add in the factor that he lost his wife...he's clearly lonely and the filly probably provides a sense of comfort and friendship that can't be replaced.
And it's not like she isn't earning any money for him, because she is.
