I've worked on some campaigns. I canvassed 6+ precincts, in person, in one town and wore out a couple pair of shoes, also made a lot of phone calls and sent out a lot of postcards, too, wehn off my feet.
There's some pretty cool apps too that help you find all the houses, connect with each voter, and put your notes into database, etc. If you are green and get a chance to travel with some experienced precinct captains, you learn a lot about connecting with people. If not you try to latch on to a committee member who has plenty of miles under their belt.

Obviously you don't understand much if you think someone saying epople need to get involved in grassroots campaigns means they have to personally run for office.
Go back to your recliner. Pretty sure these skillsets would be far above your abilties, based on your response.
