Actually, the #1 reason is that bookies only like losers.
As much as I care about the health of the racing industry...
Well, there is a saying a psychologist shared with me that applies here: "You can't care more about the patient than he cares about himself."
I simply will not worry about whether or not the tracks are getting fed.
All that being said, personally, I'd not put my money with a bookmaking system that did not feed the industry.
