Hong Kong Racing Recap
Date: March 25, 2018
Track: Sha Tin
Track Bias: Turf: Speed Awt: Very Speed
Races that have become Key Races after today’s results: 391 & 437

Notes for the day:
Race 1 (520): Usual front runner Happy Sound (29) showed no early speed and was steadied heading into the turn and then forced to the three path afterwards when Gold Talent (20) started fading in front of him. Longshot wiinner Ever Strong (38) with Purton started the day that had an obvious speed bias on the dirt track, he went straight to the front and from there the track carried him to the wire. Both Trendiful (29) and Carry To Win (24) made up ground in the stretch but were unable to make up the distance on the winner. Winning Controller (39) and Telecom Titan (35) (was slow from the gate) closed in the lane while fighting the bias, but were never going to challenge for top spots.

Race 2 (521): Just Not Listening (51) became restless in the gate when they removed the hood causing him to be tardy out of the gate, at the same time in the far out post Ocean Elite (45) was also a little slow from the barrier and needed running room later in the race, but was unable while full of run. Slight favourite Refined Treasure (71) was able to gain a good position at the break and was allowed to dictate the pace to his liking and drew away for a very easy win. Second betting choice Complacency (58) broke well but doesn’t have the early speed to run with horses like Refined Treasure and fighting a speed bias was too much for him to overcome, may need to go a little further.

Race 3 (522): Good Choice Ahead (40) was about three lengths slow from the field at the start. Moreira on the slight favourite Right Call (65) who was dropping in class and was exiting a key race (huge angle in Hong Kong) was able to get good position soon after the break, after 500 metres he allowed Wong on A Beautiful (58) to take over the lead but sat right behind him waiting for him to tire. Finally with 300 to go Moreira asked and received for a response and fought off two closers at the line, one of them being Empire Star (54) who was bumped sideways at the break then closed in the stretch while staying on the rail against the bias, quickly out galloped past the winner after the wire. Merrygowin (60) was also gaining on the winner racing against the bias, should improve off this effort if he draws a better barrier next time out.

Race 4 (523): Breaking from the 12 barrier Rawiller was gung ho on getting Sum Win Dragon (57) to the lead which he accomplished, unfortunately for his sake it would be his eventual doom, even with the bias helping out (there are some things a bias just can’t do). It was very impolite for Chadwick on Remarkable (57) not to let Wong on Premium Champion (57) over in the first turn forcing him to race 3 wide, which never works out for lesser class runners going marathon distances. Winner Audicity (51) was well placed by Moreira on the rail waiting for Nash on the front runner to quit, moved to the lead half-way in the final turn and held off Je Pense (55) who was stuck behind him at the top of the stretch when room became available down at the rail he closed but ran out of real estate. A decent run by You Have My Word (46) who drew the 13 hole in the gate, was 12 wide entering the stretch and made a nice close but was too far back against the bias.

Race 5 (524): Agree (77) got out to an early lead and jumped on the conveyer belt and was never challenged, while Green Energy (78) raced behind him 2 lengths back and the track also carried him to the line. Tai Smart (62) closed on the outside but never was a serious challenger, but was a good effort considering he was fighting the track. Unicorn Jewellery (74) put in a pretty poor effort for Size and Moreira.

Race 6 (525): First time starter Best Gift (57) and Management Star (45) were 1 length slow out of the gate. Front running type First Beaut (37) was a little slower in the early going and allowed Purton on Elite Boy (66) to jump to the rail and soon grabbed the lead and won by daylight while never being challenged, although he was very green in the lane. Grand Harbour (44) tried to run with the winner early on but wasn’t fast enough to keep up and had enough by the stretch run. Goldie Flanker (53) was four wide throughout the turn, Superior Boy (41) made a run after being wide in the turn while running against the bias.

Race 7 (526): Mythical Emperor (75) stumbled at the start, Wong was lucky enough just to stay on, then was 4 wide in the turn. Again Purton on Perpetual Treasure (83) took advantage of the draw and the bias, went straight to the front and played ‘catch me if you can’. Winning Vangogh (80) dueled with him until about the 350 metre mark but then threw out the anchor. Dragon Master (78) made it very interesting at the end, closing in on the winner after racing mid-pack on the rail.

Race 8 (527): Ace King (64) was caught a little off balance at the start costing him at least a length, was mixed up in the wash later on in the stretch. Winner Baltic Whisper (92) broke well and quickly grabbed the lead and was under a strangle hold under the wire, Wong on Dragon Pioneer (68) rushed up to the winner after breaking on the far outside and was able to hold on for third. Top Beautiful (69) and Mega Heart (79) both put in very dull efforts.

Race 9 (528): Simply Brilliant (94), Easy Go Easy Win (94) and Citron Spirit (94) hooked up at the top of the lane and put in a good fight all the way to the wire. Top weight Eastern Express (95) set the pace early on but couldn’t keep up with the top three mid-stretch. Doyeni (91) closed late but raced too far back on this track make up the distance.

Race 10 (529): Turin Redstar (79) lost a length when Leung had to take up entering the turn when Raging Storm (63) came over into his path, Moreira on Raging Storm tried to make a run at the winner Regency Bo Bo (87) at the top of the lane but just couldn’t reach him and tired late. Regency Bo Bo was able to grab the lead before the turn and was able to hold off and win by 2. Roundabout (69) was rank on the backside, then was blocked early in the stretch, than had to be taken up at the 175 metre mark when Turin Redstar drifted out in front of him because Clipperton on Shamport (74) moved outward for running room, the incident cost Clipperton a suspension. God Of Dragon (76) and Ultimate Glory (68) both closed late while racing too far back on this day’s track.

Horses to watch for next out list:
Race 3 (522) #7 Empire Star (54) Had closed to finish second in his race before this one at 21-1 against Raging Storm, unfortunately he caught a day when the track was anything but favourable to closers. At the break Smiling Pride came in and bumped him extremely hard knocking him sideways. Rawiller gave a perfect ride saving as much ground as possible in the turn, found space in the stretch and continued to close on the winner only to run out of room at the wire, he quickly galloped out past the winner after the finish line.

Race 10 (529) #3 Turin Redstar (79) Broke well and was in good position but had to be steadied entering the turn when Raging Storm came over onto him, all the while the top weight winner Regency Bo Bo (87) was taking advantage of the track bias. Was interfered with at the 175 metre mark when Clipperton on Shamport moved outward trying to find running room, he never was going to challenge for the win even with the trouble.

Horses to avoid next out:
Will take a close look at any runners who won on this day.
