I didn't realize this at the time, but apparently the Derby DQ shattered an illusion people had about the Derby, that the stewards would "swallow their whistles" because of the importance of the event.
And a lot of racing fans hate stewards. That's the only explanation I have for this fantasy people have that the Wests' lawyers are going to get to cross examine the stewards.
This isn't just no-names on tbe Internet either. Even Andy Beyer apparently thought the Derby was different.
What this Derby did was shatter the bubble and make it clear that the Derby is like any other race and that sometimes a non-"best" horse will get moved up.
