I heard of several stories of John Henry being that "horse with attitude" that makes many of them such special animals. I heard that if you got to close to his area of the barn you had to be constantly aware or on the lookout because he wouldn't hesitate to zip across the barn and butt into you to let you know that you were in his area or space. Evidently, he had that edge about him that made him such a driven and spirited horse which apparently carried over to many of his memorable performances on the track.
