Sadly, my hometown, Louisville, has all those cities beat, going from 92 in 2019 to 173 in 2020, an increase of nearly 90%. And in January 2021, the city has had 15 murders, up from 7 last year. Grim stats. Overt segregation, gangs, no family structure to speak of, horrible mayoral leadership and Covid shutting down schools, community centers, churches, etc. have escalated this.
For context, there have been at least 80 murders in the city annually since 2015, and between 40-60 in the first half of the decade.
