Bear in mind it is a sport and not merely an investment. Sure the horse is their property but if you just want to make money there are plenty of other ways to do that. Nobody can force owners to run horses, but people who do these early retirements are very bad for the sport and we can at least call them jerks who don't give anything back to the bettors and fans who make this all possible.
