All these non-permissible rules about whipping seem to appease those who think the horse is being hurt and perhaps injured in some way. It’s all nonsense! They’ve been doing it for 100’s of years and there are many reasons why. One of which involves implementing some rider’s control during the run.
I’m much more concerned with the well-being and safety of the jockeys who race ride these 1000lb animals. We’ll see how long it takes until someone pays the price with a severe injury because another jockey couldn’t control his horse properly. How will PETA react then when it comes to the well being of a human ?
Back in 2011 the Jockeys in Hong Kong revolted and refused to ride until the HK Jockey Club mitigated the whipping regulations.
