semi annual game
friday night played in a 1-2-3 nl w a max bi of 500 game. 5 hours. cashed out at 475, -25. probably double the stack + if hero was playing as in years past. no single hand was played optimally. very weak passive/trappy kinds of lines by hero. all night there was a player to steal from, but hero did not. lag opener pre, passive post flop villain 2 to my right. was supposed to iso 3 bet, but was chicken about getting 4 bet from others and getting stuck for 50-70 w air so the op went unexploited the whole game. apparently, the light 3 bet to iso gear is a perishable skill as are many other facets of the game.
here's a hand played to trap, that became a shit spot. villain opens to 15, early position. two calls to hero on the button w 55 who flats, bb flats. flop is 247. it checks around. turn is a 5, 2457. opener bets 40 into 75 fold, fold, hero just flats, bb folds. river is a 6. 24567, a four straight, ugh. opener bets 120 into 155. hero tanks and calls. opener shows aq.
here's a spot played poorly twice and wonder how to do it better. scanning the banks, not finding references to compare it to, except to say there's a memory of going about things differently pre. folding or 3 betting to 60 and folding to a 4 bet. both were in late position. 1st holding qj suited, 2nd holding jt suited. after an open to 12 and two callers, the thought w both hands was you wanna see a flop, don't fold, don't get ag. dislike. flopped top pair in both.
in the first, the opener c bet 40 into a 50 pot and both villains called. hero, confused if good or bad, folded flop. it was gonna be 210 to the turn if hero just flats. it was for stacks regardless if hero pumps it up flop or just flats. remarkably, it checked around turn and river and was won by no pair aj at showdown.
in the second, bb checked, opener c-bet 20 into 50. fold, fold, hero flats, bb check raises to 70. opener flats. w jt suited, hero made a decision to flat. why? thought there were a lot of good turn cards. flop was 78j w one of hero's suit on a rainbow board. good cards were 9, t, j and hearts. probable mistake by hero. size of the check raise and the opener flatting with stack to pot ratios being what they were, meant if a good turn fell we're playing for stacks and much of the time w just top pair no kicker plus some added equity. turn paired the 8. bb bet 120. opener called. hero folded. left opener w 80. unbelievably, the river bricked a deuce, but when bb bet 80 the opener folded.
it was fun regardless. the mental gears are rusty and the only way to add grease is by participating more often.
