If so make sure that your thumbs or any other part of your hand or sleeve is not touching the track pad (or keyboard). As a test, try typing gently with your hands/arms lifted significantly, so that they are not resting on any surface.
You could also test with an external keyboard.
In addition, the track pad might need to be cleaned.
If you never turn off your computer, try a reboot.
Furthermore, if the problem persists, you can quickly discern if the problem is hardware based or software (driver) based, by merely booting a live OS.

This happened to me (parts of hand touching track pad while typing...MS Surface Book has an option that alleviates this...not sure if other laptops do as well).
