Well, it's good that you figured it out, because that problem (along with your solution) is the last thing that would have occurred to any of us.

As others here have indicated, you might try adjusting your track pad sensitivity.

Also, if you are typing for extended periods without using the track pad, you could just cover the track pad with a piece of stiff card stock or even with a thick paper napkin.
