I comissioned two works of art from a local, but large art school. Students clamor to get comissions as you can imagine. I went with senior class artists on these. I have done this kind of comissioning before for art work before. It makes the year for a senior class artist, and you get a custom comissioned artwork for 1/4 of the price you'd pay in a gallery.
First was a charcoal work of just horses. It is rather large. 4' x 5'. I wanted it free flowing and just a little abstract. I'm leaving this one unframed, just as it sits. I got the idea for this when I stayed at the Hilton in Louisville last summer. They had a similar art piece in every guest room;
The second is of Churchill Downs, with Secretariat winning the Derby with the Twin Spires in the background. I wanted this one a bit impressionistic. I thought about comissioning Secretariat's stretch run at Belmont, but everyone has seen that, and I already have a freamed signed Turcott photo of that stretch run, so I went with Secretariat at Churchill. This piece is smaller than the charcoal work and it is painted, so I may have it professionally framed. I think it will look a bit more regal in a nice frame.
So my den is complete with horse racing themes now. An early Christmas gift to myself.
Happy holidays gents.
