I'm not going to tell you about the things I encountered in dog rescue, right here in the good ol' usa.
The
very least type of offense, but quite plentiful, would be the dog(s) who have lived it's entire life, in the backyard, on the end of a rather short chain, and knows only the few feet around himself and his un-insulated dog house, and a hand that thrusts a bowl of food toward him 1x a day. Aloneness.
I cant' even count THOSE there are so many.
You surely don't want to know about other ones.....you would need brain bleach to erase it from your memory.
Wasn't Mike Vick recently given some kind of pro bowl captain -----there is no way to "un-do" the untold suffering those dogs experienced. Ever.
When I see people who have never seen the things that are done to dogs, cats, by supposedly civilized humans, because they aren't knee deep in it every day, I am both happy for them, but also realize that they are terribly terribly naive.
If what other humans are doing to dogs and cats is concerning, look around you to help the ones nearby that need your help. Otherwise, glass houses......
