Correct. it was. Dunking was banned primarily due to a guy known as Lew Alcindor (AKA Kareem Abdul Jabbar). I remember when the NCAA finals were played in College Park Md. and Sidney Wicks dunked. I believe it was then vs.Texas Western U. He was called for a tech but that dunk changed the tenure of the game. UCLA won
