The California Horse Racing Board announced late Monday that five racing officials – three stewards and two placing judges – involved in the erroneous posting of the fourth-place finisher in the A Gleam Handicap at Hollywood Park in July would be sanctioned. As a result of a CHRB investigation, the three stewards working that afternoon each had their workloads reduced by three days, and the two placing judges were fined $750 apiece.
Two weeks ago, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission’s chief steward, John Veitch, let officials who made a similar mistake in a Sept. 10 race at Kentucky Downs get off with a simple mea culpa. No fine, no suspension, no formal investigation.
