When I used to hang out in NYC OTBs, neighborhood people I knew for years only came out to bet the Triple Crown and the Breeder's Cup. That's it. The OTBs in NYC would overflow with people like that on BC days even if not at the same level as Kentucky Derby day.
That money may be lost forever, but some of the remaining OTBs, simulcast centers, racetracks etc.. that normally still take bets are closed or very limited. So I suspect a lot of causal money that would have bet in normal times did not. A lot of people don't care enough to have an account, but they are willing to take a quick walk or drive to hang out and make a few bets once or twice a year.

I agree, it’s true upstate too. On those days they would have extra security people parking cars because the Simulcasting lot would fill up. Inside there would be extra beer stands and all bartenders were working. There were people you didn’t see for years or since the last big event that showed up. They weren’t really horse players and it was the only days they played. People like that are not interested in an account. I know this for a fact because if you're with this type of fan at home they will want to put action thru your acct. They definitely lose a percentage losing some of these central points of Simulcast and OTB. Most of these casuals will still watch on tv without betting at all since they don’t have access.
They’ll ask you who you like..... then they’ll want you to put it thru.... cause you’re there with them. Some will even call you. Been there, done that . Otherwise they’re not betting at all
