Multiple myeloma ( a death sentence when diagnosed) as it is essentially PLASMA CELL cancer.

quote: Multiple myeloma is a cancer of
plasma cells. Normal plasma cells are found in the bone marrow and are an important part of the immune system. The immune system is made up of several types of cells that work together to fight infections and other diseases. Lymphocytes (lymph cells) are one of the main types of white blood cells in the immune system and include T cells and B cells. Lymphocytes are in many areas of the body, such as lymph nodes, the bone marrow, the intestines, and the bloodstream.
When B cells respond to an infection, they mature and change into plasma cells. Plasma cells make the antibodies (also called immunoglobulins) that help the body attack and kill germs. Plasma cells, are found mainly in the bone marrow. Bone marrow is the soft tissue inside bones. In addition to plasma cells, normal bone marrow is also the home for other blood cells such as red cells, white cells, and platelets.
ineffective immune system, one cannot ward off infections nor make adequate strength of antibodies. Plasma cells are differentiated B-lymphocyte white blood cells
capable of secreting immunoglobulin, or antibody. These cells play a significant role in the adaptive immune response, namely, being the main cells responsible for humoral immunity
I have NEVER known any patient diagnosed with this condition survive it long as two family members passed as a result. NO functional plasma cells (only dysplastic ones) dooms one to infections of all kinds. Not surprising an infectious disease would be this fine fellows cause of death.
