An interesting effect of the
$5000 cap on Pick 4 payouts is -- tickets like the following, which contain several singles at a high unit price (e.g. $100) become ineffective if the $1 payout is
greater than $50 (100 x $50 = $5000). The effect of the high unit per ticket is wasted in most cases (a majority of Pick4s pay more than $50 for $1 or $25 for $.50).
$100 --> 7 // 3 // 2 // 1,2 ($200)
Total = $200
A better strategy is to spread out a bit more in more legs with a lower ticket unit.
