Hong Kong Racing Recap
Date: September 11, 2019
Track: Happy Valley
Bias:Very strong rail

Horses to watch for list:
Race 25
Best Smile (60) Was beaten by a very nice runner in Aquila in his debut after being scratched in the gate after flipping in his previous try at running. Was ncold at the windows after that incident when he did run in July but did go off as the even money favourite here after picking up the leading rider Purton for this out. Breaking on the rail he took a slight step forward at the start but quickly gathered himself up, after 400 metres he found himself on the lead dueling it out with Look Eras who does show speed from time to time but would rather run second and third at the line. Entering the turn Purton took him back off the lead but was able to keep him on the rail and with the way the track playing that night it was the place to be at. When he reached the 300 metre mark he recaptured the lead without any encouragement from his rider, with 50 to go he looked the winner but was caught right before the wire by second time starter Happy Swears for Ting who paid $130 to win, should have more in the tank in his next out to get him to the wire.

Race 27
Perfect Play (64) In his last race just before the summer break he finished a nice second to Flying Quest after travelling wide without any cover but did come out of that race on the Vet's list with a sore back. Fownes had figured he had the problem solved by picking up Moreira for the run around the block and the public responded with them betting him down to the 2-1 chalk. He broke a step slow but that is nothing new with him, he usually runs from off the pace, heading into the first turn he found himself mid-pack racing two wide all the while the light weight eventual winner Last Kingdom was on the front end setting a very slow pace for the rest to ran at. At the 750 metre mark Joao tried to get him into the race but was forced out to the three path entering the turn and with a very strong rail bias that night he was now treading water, entering the stretch he drifted out to the five path even further away from the land of gold and honey and with the early pace situation he couldn't make up the ground in the stretch and was hand ridden for the final 100 metres.

Horse to avoid next time out:
Race 27
Last Kingdom (70) Was allowed to set a pedestrian pace while racing on a very strong rail for the evening, don't think he will catch lightning in a bottle twice in a row.
