I was unaware those debating were paid any amount. I thought those eligible were based on some standing in the polls e.g., the top four etc.
I listened to some of Trump's announcement speech where he stated he was willing to self fund his campaign (probably to some $ level).
Btw, I don't like the guy, mostly because of his stands on issues and his comments in general. He always seems to have one whether his opinion is asked or not.
