Back in the old days, DED took trifecta wagers every other race. Most of the people there regarded it as sorta a mini lottery. So, the lines were long for trifecta races.
But people didn't head for the windows until the announcer said that it was post time. Then, there'd be 20 people in every line. Usually about 2 or 3 people in each line would get shut out. But it was at least 5 minutes after post time before the race went off and wagering ended.
Then someone had a manual ticket machine in their car and they eventually had to switch to electronic wagering because several times large tickets were cashed that weren't sold.
