Only part of the closing chapter of the COLD WAR
Yes Ronnie was smart, but since WWII, European allies in conjunction with American leaders responded to the Soviet control of Eastern Europe by developing a policy of containment–the United States preventing communism from spreading to additional countries, even though it would not challenge communism where it already existed. This cold war went on and forced the Soviets into difficult positions. A long and diffident but strategic alternative to
all out thermonuclear war.
The Soviets were not only outspent, but way earlier the Truman Doctrine introduced the American policy that it would support any country that was fighting communism.
The start of America’s policy of containment.
Truman also started NATO. The allies from WWII.
Of course much had to do with "Mikhail Gorbachev’s Glasnost and Perestroika" Reagan and George H. W. Bush could not have done it as easily without him.
As usual you reduce history, jut like climate change and, infectious diseases to oversimplified pablum
