People are smart enough to do the math no matter how much the media and liberal thought police tell them it's wrong to think in terms of profiling on religion. Everyone with a functioning brain knows the more we let in the more terrorist attacks there will be both in terms of number and rate. They also know we can't vet them well. Even if we could, some would be turned against us after they arrived. People are willing to set aside the "norms" when the safety of their families is on the line.
If he was talking about rounding people up like FDR he would be thoroughly finished and done. Virtually no one would accept that. But immigration is not a right and there are many precedents for pausing immigration on the national level, especially during wartimes. His only mistake was saying "all Muslims" instead of just listing the countries (which would have practically been the same thing anyway).
