It's only a "ways off" if you haven't been reading the signs of the times for the last decade or two. And cash transactions are getting tighter than ever here in the U.S. But nothingbig happens overnight. The public is eased slowly into big changes like this, so that when the time comes to pull the plug on cash, virtually everyone will just yawn. But again...Europe is way ahead of us -- probably because we haven't gone full tilt socialism, yet. The people in the EU are more acclimated to government controls than we are.
I even get the "what planet are you from" look when I deposit 5K or so in cash into any of my accounts. Really? What's 5K today!?
