Spock died in
Star Trek II: the Wrath of Kahn. They resurrected him in
Star Trek III: the Search for Spock. Spock talked to the whales in
Star Trek IV: the Voyage Home.
Just before he dies at the end of
The Wrath of Kahn he puts his hand on the head of an unconscious Dr. McCoy and says "Remember". That bit is the key to his resurrection in the following movie. I think that bit was not in
Wrath of Kahn when it was first released and they added it in later releases. But I can't prove it.
