If someone liked emotion and drama the late Bill Garr was your kinda guy. He had a Southern California replay radio show back in the day and did his own calls. If my memory of 40+ years ago is correct he did the feature live. He made even a boat race sound like a blanket 4 horse driving finish. I would look at the charts in the next days papers and laugh. It was rough if you made an early bird bet and relied on his calls, especially if you had a lone front runner.
A horse could have got an easy 3 length lead and coasted around the track and Bill would make it sound like there were horses all over yours and they never caught a breather.
