If Noble Indy was used in the Belmont like he was in his subsequent race, I'd consider it among the dumbest things I've seen at the racetrack in my lifetime. Winstar had a big piece of both horses. Gunning with Noble Indy was not going to help him win. It was going to guarantee he finished last from pushing Justify. It might have helped Repole's other horse. If I was Winstar, I'd never partner with Repole given he was willing to use Noble Indy (a horse I owned a piece of also) as a rabbit against me.  |
But that's the thing. The web of interlocking ownerships and trainers create huge conflicts of interest.
