Hong Kong Racing Recap
Date: February 7, 2018
Track: Happy Valley
Track Bias: None
Races that have become Key Races after today’s results: 302 & 334

Notes for the day:
Race 1 (401): +95 Victory Follow Me (42) sat in a perfect spot took the lead at the top of the stretch and had no excuse why he didn’t hold on for the win, unfortunately for him he picked up 2 rating points so now he’s up in class. Fine With Me (44) was a little rank in the first turn and in the final turn but it obviously didn’t have an effect to him when Nash asked to run and just got up at the wire. The Legend (33) with Moreira on was all covered up in on the rail, finally late he gained some open room but even then didn’t show much determination much fight. Celebration (30) was a little choppy in his gallop out.

Race 2 (402): -95# Happy Rocky (60) was able to save ground in all the turns while the other runners were taking turns going wide at important moments in the race, and outran Purton on the favourite Garlic Yeah (54) who came into the stretch 6 wide and just wasn’t able to catch the winner, looked very tired in the gallop out.

Race 3 (403): -100# Excellent ride by the bug boy Poon on Packing Dragon (99), was able to get a comfortable lead early on, and when Clipperton on Prawn Baba (94) made a move to the leader on the backside, Poon opened him up again then grabbed him up again without letting him run off on him, had plenty left for the stretch run in an all-out fight to the wire with 5 runners within a length at the line. Marvel Hero (100) was a little slow out of the gate then was bumped outwardly forcing Moreira to take back, then made a move entering the far turn going 4 wide and by the time they had entered the stretch there was nothing under him, not the best of rides by him. Race came back very slow due to the slow early pace set by the winner.

Race 4 (404): -96 The winner Sharpmind (53) was forced to take up in the short turn which made the eventual second place finisher Funny Buddies (47) also had to check up behind him. Another pace less race set by Formula Galore (44) who put in a game effort in the stretch but was unable to hold off the chalk winner. Funny Buddies came flying home racing on the rail after lacking running room in the stretch, just needed a few more metres or they would have taken his photo. Look for Gouten Of Garo (51) to improve next out if he can get a better draw than what he had today, also Hero Time (50) made a nice run late after racing too far back in the early stages of the race.

Race 5 (405): 96 Best Runner (51) looked like he was going to blow up the board half-way thru the stretch but he refused to split a couple runners. While that was going on numero Uno (57) was being blocked on the rail by the two pace setters, finally when room became available he took off only get beat by on a bob by a fast closing Navas (64), who was dead last entering the stretch but was clear of traffic. Buoyant Boy (52) also closed with the winner on the outside but just wasn’t fast enough to get up.

Race 6 (406): 96 Purton on the favourite High Volatility (64) was able to get an uncontested lead and coasted all the way around, with only one runner putting in any kind of challenge and Gentry (53) was way too late to make up that difference. No visual problems on why Smart Baby (47) ran such a poor race.

Race 7 (407): 100 Charity Glory (77) was allowed to get an easy lead when Wong on Who Else But You (76) refused to put any pressure on him on the backside. Light weight and chalk Spring Win (63) might have gotten up for the win if not for being boxed in on the rail for most of the stretch run, closed but was short on distance on the pace setter winner. The new comer Famous Warrior (73) should improve off that effort, was blocked and was never allowed to fully extend his legs, watch closely for him to come back especially if Purton keeps the mount. Would not be surprised if this race becomes a key race in the near future, with multiple winners coming out of it.

Race 8 (408): 100 Let’s Take It Easy (68) took full advantage of only having to carry 114 pounds, ran away from high weight Big Bang Bong (78) who didn’t change leads AGAIN in the stretch, as did the second place runner Imperial Gallantry (81) who was forced to the 7 path entering the stretch with Moreira on board, picks up the added point in the ratings so unless he finds a Class 3 85-60 he’ll have to go up to Class 2 and get the light wieght. Look for third place runner Super Lucky (63) to go even further than the 1650 metres he ran today, 1800 metres at Sha Tin might be right up his alley, he’s a long strider that looks to take a while to get going.

Horses to watch for next out list:
Race 4 (404) #9 Funny Buddies (47): Is not the most consistent runner in Hong Kong, he’s only found the winners’ circle once in his 24 tries. He settled in the third flight heading into the short turn soon after the start but became very rank going into it when the runners directly in front of him started to bunch up. Was pinned in on the rail entering the stretch cocking his head to the side while looking for room to run, after trying to found room on the outside Moreira moved him back over to the rail and he took off when there was space enough to fit thru, unfortunately he ran out of room at the wire to get up for the win, he did gallop out past the winner quickly afterwards.

Horses to avoid next out:
Race 3 (403) Packing Dragon (99): Was allowed to get a very slow easy lead and was able to coast home in a very slow time for a Class 2 races, am playing that he won’t get that kind of trip next time out.
