In this country at least, black plantation ownership existed and they utilized slave labor as well.
The notion black slavery was a "southern" act of evil is a myth. Slave labor was common hundreds of years ago worldwide. Land owners and the wealth in the northern United States used black slave liberally.
Slavery is a subject that is more misunderstood than any other topic. People by and large are ignorant historically, and assume all they see and read elsewhere thru present day information, has to be a fact.
