Wire to wire speed, can it be dispensed with ?
First of all I 'm back after a rather long absence.
The wire to wire speed is the basic parameter upon which we base our horse racing predictions. There are all sorts of collaterals that play an important role but wire to wire speed is the most important.
There is however this tendency in many race tracks of the world:
Make the race distance an unknown factor by moving the starting stalls around !
The race tracks of the world also don't like people who often predict horse races correctly.
Consider the distance one mile.
That's 1608 meters in metric and the wire to wire time averages to some 1.42.00, or 102 secs.
Take away 18 meters and make it 1590 meters. This means the one who ran in 1.42.00, runs in 1.41.10 now, the start to finish time is lowered by about 0.90 seconds.
If you ignore this, it's too bad. 0.90 secs is the difference between a Kentucky derby winner and the one who finished fourth in the same race.
But when we don't know the exact distances, we are blindfolded.
Given that the race tracks don't even listen to us complaining and say "get lost" and that they also mumble some lame excuses, such as mud poodles or the topography of the track or the position of the tv cameras, what do we do ?
Is it possible to find something else ?
