It's enjoyable to have these arguments about horses with potential.
We used to see things play out on the track.
Anyone else remember 4 year old Seattle Slew v. 3 year old Affirmed, e.g.?

Here is even better evidence of Seattle Slew’s greatness. The 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup at a mile and a half.
Even though Slew didn’t win, it was an incredible performance. First, he battled with Affirmed through blistering fractions-6 furlongs in 1:09.2. Then Exceller, a very good horse in his own right, passed him. Exceller had been no part of the suicidal Pace duel. Still, Seattle Slew fought back and lost by only a nose.
Seattle Slew and Affirmed met twice and the Billy Turner trainee finished in front both times. In the JCGC Affirmed finished fifth beaten 18 1/2 lengths.
