They have stud plans, and surely have already booked mares to him. That's a lot of contracts they'd have to get out of. At $70k, he'll make about $10m in stud fees for the year. I think they count their blessings and retire as planned.
I thought the 3yo finalists for the Eclipse were very weak on accomplishments. It's nice to see that the one they named champion stepped up in this race and made the championship for last year look more deserving.

what are they going to lose 2 weeks of the breeding season? if the horse wins that race they may get more for the seasons as well, and to me it looks like he is pretty set up to win the race after yesterday.
retiring the horse and bringing him back for 1 race to make the fans happy is great hype, especially when they are probably going to get an appearance fee and win the lion's share of the $10 million purse.
