That would be an addtional feather in his cap to expand into US dirt racing.
However, as it stands, Obrien broke the world record for group 1 victories in a calendar year last year, eclipsing the mark set by the US-based Bobby Frankel in 2003.
I don't think he exactly "needs" to accomplish more, I mean, he has broken every record worth breaking and won every race worth winning in Europe and beyond, and in spite of it, seems to be a very humble and polite person, and is quite well known for sharing credit of victories with all the employees of his Ballydoyle stable and the Coolmore stud......he is pretty well known for his extreme modesty.
So not sure what you mean by "all along"....
