i haven't heard of this type of wagers in 50 years, but i remember them, they are called stop action.. the people i knew that played that way all wound up going broke, but they did it with a double up catch up process in place, if they lost the first they would double down on the second, then double down on the 3rd, and then the 4th, and then the 5th, and then the 6th. these guys played this way with sports games. maybe its different with horses.
