In my experience, usually when a horse bolts it is a sign of a soreness issue. Weirdest bolt I've ever seen just happened August 6th in the 5th race at Fort Erie. Imperial Alydeed, a former allowance horse dropped in for 5k, had a good lead going into the far turn and bolted to the outside fence....and still won the race.
Must have been a good outside fence bias that day.
