What percentage of a racer's 2-5 year old time span do they actually do anything but standing or sleeping in their stall...?
Maybe horses need much more time spent running free without riders aboard to built up the muscles and bones in their legs properly...
Could be the breed is getting fragile in the leg and ankle department because of being penned up all the time...Horses used to roam free on the plains and were probably much sturdier for it...
