what you say is true, that is one of the things that has to be taken into account, and the class handicapper, if he can come up with his solution makes his class rating more valuable than the published, popular ways of estimating class. but money earned is a good start, based on real-world scenarios.
an example would be money earned at face value in non-restricted race events would carry the most weight, when the runner is a colt, less so when a horse,you get the idea.
