What am I missing here? A strong lightning bolt can destroy just about anything. Striking another high energy electrical power source couldn't look very pretty.

Those charging stations are fused in multiple places, no chance a lighting strike would energize the car with an over current situation, the charging station would just go dead. They are quick blow fuses that over amperage or voltage will destroy. There is also protection against them back feeding the grid.
