My two cents on the situation:
Jerry Hollendorfer made his career running the county fair circuit. I always thought he might not be a true hall of famer as he padded his numbers on the county fair circuit instead of at traditional tracks. That being said, these race tracks used at country fairs would be in worse shape than a regular racetrack due it being used only a few weeks at a time and maintained by a staff of lesser quality less than a full time racetrack. To my knowledge, he never had a problem with horse's breaking down at the county fairs.
Why, all of a sudden is his horses breaking down? Could be the track or it could be he was lucky to avoid after caring poorly for his horses. This could only be discovered by a vet and an examination of his operation from the feed he feeds the horses, etc.
The truth will come out in time.
