Love comes from the heart and if our hearts are evil there can be no love for friends or enemies.

Of course Jesus can. Man is morally obligated to love as God loves. But this doesn't mean that man in his sinful nature has that capability inherently. And to be made in God's image doesn't mean that we are divine in our essence!
It simply means that we're intelligent, moral, personal beings as he is. Being made in his image is what separates us from the animals.
You want to boast about man's supposed moral goodness, yet you overlook the obvious: If man is inherently good, then would God have to give this his people a new heart and the Holy Spirit? Iif man is inherently good, then why did Jesus tell Nicodemus that he must be born again if he hopes to see the kingdom of heaven? And if man is inherently good, then why did Jesus tell us that no one but God alone is good? And if man is inherently good, why did Jesus teach that man is evil in his essence?
Matt 7:11
11
"If you then,
being evil,
know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
NASB
And,
Matt 12:34
34
"You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil,
speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.
NASB
Evil is as Evil does! Jesus in both cases is making a very clear statement about the essence of man -- YOU BEING EVIL!
The entire tenor of scripture agrees Jesus. And he's a lot smarter, wiser and righteous than you are.
