Ha. Didn't even cross my mind. That is what we called it. We didn't know any better.
Tossed a ball up in the air, the guy that recovered it was the RB/ball carrier. Everybody else was to tackle him (hence smear.. whoever). I have no idea why it was called "Smear the Queer". At that age we had no clue what gay was, nor did we even care.
I was OJ Simpson or Earl Campbell. Always the toughest and fastest to bring down.
