The tractability to sit just off the pace-at least through the early stages- in a one-turn race is one thing, doing that at a legitimate route distance, something else. And tempo will become a potential stumbling block as the distances increase.
Imagine the horse pitted against a Go Knicks, say, at nine-furlongs. Somebody will have to take back, at least a bit. And it won't be the Cox runner.
I will focus on the small picture when Flightline performs. There will be time enough later to anoint him the chosen one. I'm as excited as anyone about the horse. But far from ready to award him anything he doesn't earn. Harboring doubts is fun for me.
