The last time I used it was when I was doing the studies I described above. At the time, I knew Excel fairly well but had no background in solver/regression analysis. I was able to find help videos on Youtube that got me through it. I still have my old spreadsheets, but it has been so long I'm not the guy to guide you through it now. I'd have to relearn what I did the last time. I will probably revisit it again eventually, but I already have to much on my plate.
