Considering that the actual infection rate is 8-12 times higher than known infections according to many studies, the actual death rate is on par with the flu. Coronavirus is not any more deadly than the flu. The problem is that coronavirus is much more contagious than the flu and therefore the raw numbers are much higher. How do you stop a contagion? You don't stop it, which is why every country despite their method of virus suppression is seeing the same spikes and the same amplitudes. Our thought process while waiting for a vaccine should be similar to a doctor's oath, "first, do no harm". Don't destroy the economy and add to the suicide and overdose rates by creating artificial barriers that don't work. That's doing harm without any benefit as seen in numerous studies.
