In vibrant job markets, the rents are bid up and the only way to get off that carousel is to buy something.
In NE Ohio, we've been down so long, we don't experience rent creep. It actually can make sense to find a decent rental and stay there long term. But, I wouldn't move somewhere just because cost of living is low. It's better to go where there is work and find something to buy.
