Empires generally last about 400 years.
The Roman Empire dates from the Battle of Actium (circa 30 BCE) to the sack of Rome in 410 CE, 450 years.
The British Empire dates from the Spanish Armada (1588) to 1940, 352 years.
The U.S. invaded Tripoli in 1801. At 220 years we have a way to go.
The aforementioned empires also had financial problems. None brought them to their knees.
